Friends Help Friends Build Democracy.
It’s been a lonely, hard year for so many of us. Many of us are asking what we can do to make things better in the face of so much difficulty. We need a powerful force to get to the polls in person or by mail.
We have that force in each other. Our relationships are one of our greatest sources of healing, for ourselves and for our country. Building community builds and strengthens democracy.
We can’t feel comfortable until we KNOW the people we love have voted. By taking responsibility for people we already know and care about, we can rapidly grow the number of votes cast - not just registrations or plans.
Let’s get our friends and loved ones to the polls in seven key states: North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Ohio.
The “Reach Out” Guide:
Step 1: Call, Text, Message
Reach out to five friends in battleground states who might feel disconnected in this tough year
How have they been coping? What has brought them joy? What has been rough? What’s at stake for them this election?
Step 2: Vote Together
Keep each other accountable all the way to the polls
Don’t feel comfortable until you KNOW they’ve voted. When will they submit their mail-in ballot? What time will you text them on Election Day to check in? Can you help them work through any obstacles?
Step 3: Make Them Count
Recruit your friends to make five more check-ins
Ask your friends to list the five friends they plan to reach out to and keep accountable all the way to the polls. Remember, the swing state margins were under 2% in 2016!
Step 4:
Share Your Story
Spread the word and tell us how it went
We would love to hear who you inspired to vote! Share a story by using #VoteTogether. Tell us how it went here.
